Parent. Healthcare provider. Caregiver. Advocate.
From 2023 to 2024, a group of eight caregivers of children with tracheostomies in Texas partnered with a nurse scientist to answer the research question:
“What are the experiences of caregivers of CMC with a tracheostomy as they provide care daily for their child in the home?”
This study used photovoice, an innovative arts-based research methodology, to explore caregivers’ experiences. This site was created to share these families’ stories and to increase awareness of their daily challenges and successes.
About the researcher
Julie Van Orne is a registered nurse in Texas who has worked with children with a tracheostomy for over 16 years as a rehab technician, a bedside nurse, a private duty nurse, and now as a nurse scientist.
